Hi Rosie,
The Charleston Artist Guild has many members who informally get together to paint out in the area. CAG @ http://www.charlestonartistguild.com is one of the largest and most active groups of artists in the area.
The only strictly plein air group in the Charleston Area was COPA -the Charleston Outdoor Painters Asso. but it mearged with CAG a couple of years ago.
Hope this is helpful. Welcome to Charleston. I think you'll enjoy living and painting in our coastal sub tropical climate.

I've now added an "Easy-L" model pochade box with a heavy duty tripod to my painting gear. In windy conditions, I like to use a Beauport style easel with an extra large wooden painting box on the spreaders. This easel style is similar to the easels used by the 19th centuary Maine and Mass. painters.

It's nice to see a priest of the Episcopal Church dress in such a traditional manner. I'm a Catholic (and a very traditional one ) and I long to see all of our priests dressing properly in such a manner again.

White Point Gardens has it all -location,location,location. It's at the spot where the Ashley and Cooper Rivers flow into Charleston Harbor. Historic Fort Moultrie and Fort Sumter are visable from the walk at the "High Battery" across the street. Lovely colonial homes and gardens surrond the park. It's a great place to visit and paint.
