A new painting of St. Michael's Church by Charleston Artist Katherine Schneider
I enjoyed painting historic St. Michael's Church in the early morning sun as the bells from the steeple chimed the time as they have for centuries.
St. Michael's Church, situated at the "Four Corners of Law" in Charleston, is the oldest church building in the city. Both President George Washington in 1791 and General Robert E. Lee in 1861 attended worship services at St. Michael's during visits to the city. Although the entire steeple sank 8" as a result of the earthquake 1886, the steeple clock remains the oldest functioning colonial tower clock in the country.![]() |

Spring Paints Bright Colors in Lowcountry Gardens
After an unusually mild winter, bright skies and warm weather has caused an early bloom of colorful Spring flowers in the SC Lowcountry.

| Colorful flowers and a red tin roof make a charming Lowcountry scene in the late afternoon light. |
I was out painting when I saw this wonderful scene of blooming azalas, "naked Lady" lilies and purple wisteria in the yard of a historic home in an old fishing village by Jeremy Creek.
"Springtime in Charleston" A plein air painting of the Joseph Verre House
A bright red Japanese maple and intertwining vines of pink roses and confederate jasmine blooming on the garden gate of the Joseph Verre House were the inspiration for this plein air (on location) painting .
Charleston's historic colonial homes are graced with some of the loveliest, intimate garden spaces in the country. While they are often planted to be enjoyed all year long, it is in the spring that they outdo themselves with colorful blooms.
